you can get yourself an assassin spin xtra heavy 11ft (3 ounce cast weight) with a shimano sedona c5000.. throw in 20lb boss braid and you have a a good spinning setup on a budget...you looking at +-2500... but you wont be complaining when you hooked up... tight lines...

Hi. What's your budget for the set and what species are you wanting to target? Okuma has a few good rods and reels that are cheap and can pull decent fish.

I agree on the Shimano Sedona 5000 XFI (41 ratio). There is one point overlooked by many lure anglers and that is retrieval per crank. I for one enjoy the higher retrieval rate as when needed I do not have to so called wind really fast and if I want a slower lure speed I just wind slower. However, there are many rods that are available to match the reel. I would suggest the Loomis Archipelago. I casted a friends set and really enjoyed it, has fuji K series guides and good components. Brade wise I use Gosan (a bit expensive), many brands and types available however never had issues with my brade for over 5 years and the thickness to strength ratio, cast ability and quality is brilliant. I found ratings on some brades to be incorrect. Go to a tackle shop and look at the different thickness versus the rating. Buy unfused brade. Shop around by phoning many tackle shops for the best price and availability. Many choices however this is my suggestion within your price range.

I have a 12ft assassin spin xh (1-3oz) with a daiwa procaster 4000a. Reel has a 5.3:1 ratio with 6kg of drag and comes with 2 spools can have different braid pounds or one spool braid and one mono (like me). Catch shad, garrick and kingfisher. I paid around R1800 for the set without the line. Braid I use is JDB 8 strand and I have no issues at all with it.

I suggest that you visit your nearest basil manning store and have a chat with the guys.. i`m sure they will advise you best..... some may find it a bit on the expensive side but I would say dont compromise on quality... tight lines!

A bit of sound advice. Make sure you buy a reel that can take salt water. When you spin your reel is going to be dunked in the sea.
