Any update on the sardines?

Last I heard they were spotted in the Southbroom area

Still far South, weekend cold front and drop in temp.might just see them
on our shores next week.

Just heard netting at Port edward

So i saw a post about sardines landing in Toti this weekend

i keep hearing people mentioning that they are way smaller in size this year comparing to the previous years...
I know the sardine is on the orange list of endangered species
is the sizes really that small when compared to previous years?

a net was landed around 2pm at Nyoni rocks, Toti yesterday. There were approx 15 crates although a large net was pulled earlier in the morning. Size of sardines were relatively normal to large with the odd small sard inbetween. every sard had roe and lots of scales. they were selling at R50.00 per dozen and R1200.00 per crate. they were not smashed due to it being a small shoal.

What your perception on the sards? Why have they disappeared?

maybe water too warm, temp has to be 19% or lower for the sards to move up the coast past Durban and beyond, late arrival could also be a factor
