My selection for catching live Shad.
Here's my collection for catching Shad to use as Live bait. What's yours?
The spoons are fine. Adrian is correct, change the treble hooks. Change the single wire to double wire so it doesn't kink or break off easy. When joining wire to spoon use round split rings.
A few s bend white metal and you are sorted. I add flash to the hooks, a little trick. It works well.
Also remove trebles and use 2 singles back to back.
Hi
I do not use wire at the end of the spoon,it affects the action of the spoon, shad will not bite over the spoon in a hurry.Split rings are great and allow the spoon to move with the action it was designed to create,be it S bend or flat back,Cliver Hilliar ,is the best spoon man I know in Durban and his C4 spoon is legendary for the Natal Snoek.
He used to own Double Deadly 0822136297 call him to buy spoons or red eye and mackerel
Nice selection B, however a single hook would be best if intended for live bait....definitely not a treble as it tears through the mouth with the violent nature of shad. I can see those spoons at the of some line attached to a KP :-)
Great catch well done was at winkels and saw 3 garrick and a dagga landed, was this catch in the south coast,
Will definitely add a few chase spoons and if you fishing the south coast dont be cawt without a falcon spoon, the shad down south will never leave it
