Fishing at Saint Lucia

Here are some answers that may assist you.

Where should I stay? I would like to not have to go bushwhacking. Google where to stay St Lucia. There are some nice resorts in the area, La Rochele, etc.

Do I need a 4x4 to get there and move around? 4x4 only allowed with permit to launch from shore then must be parked of at designated areas, not on beach. Normal vehicle will suffice, to an from St Lucia.

What is a good time of year to go? Depends on what you targeting,. etc. It is quite humid in summer months with lots of mozzies. In season you can target Shad, Grunter, Pompano, Kob, Garrick and in-eds. 3 spot pompano (wave garrick) are around most of the year and can be real fun on light tackle. Remember to limit your catch, do not catch your limit!!! You must have fishing and bait permits.

Is there bait available nearby accommodation? You cannot gather bait in the MPA as it is illegal. You can purchase the "white" prawn however from the local stores. Rather purchase your sardine, chokka, squid and prawn prior as they are quite expensive in St Lucia

Is it suitable for families? Yes. Most resorts have good amenities to keep the whole family busy

I've heard people online speak about Cape Vidal, is this the same general area as St Lucia? Cape Vidal is about 20 to 30 min drive from St Lucia. It could take you an hour if you stop to photograph the abundant wildlife. You can fish and snorkel at Cape Vidal and it is not as busy as the St Lucia beaches. You pay a fee per person to enter. Gates open from 6am to 6pm. You could also stop off at Mission rocks to fish to/from Cape Vidal.
