Catface Rockcod
For some reason this year Mtunzini Beach has seen catches of Rockcod from the surf in big numbers , nobody knows why as we do not have reef in our surf. For about 2 months every time guys went fishing at least one rock cod was landed. Maybe they are also get effected buy climate change and are moving about more than they used to.
Thanks for sharing. I must say that the recent weather conditions being high waves and stronger than usual currents may have changed the inner ocean revealing more reefs or even covering them causing these species to migrate to other reefs.
Here is a picture of Winkles. Those that fish there will recognise the small pier that is sanded, generally a small sheltered bay that is not there now.
Good morning.
It's quite strange to be catching Rockod on the sand banks. I personally caught a few in the Durban harbour on centre bank in about waist deep water.
Hi Nic, I have seen this phenomenon before, about 10 years ago, fishing Drift sands, up to Dead mans point on the North side of the river mouth. Among the many rock cod were sea barbel as well. This also was at the end of the winter months.
