Back to basics

The surf conditions in my area was not all that good meaning there was a lot of sand banks with lots of weed. I had some spare time to fish so I decide to teach my son gulley (rock) fishing. Took a drive to Ansties where the condition was bad as well being sanded however we managed to find a few rocky outcrops that were fishable. We fished for 3 hours landing many undersize black tail and flag tails that were released. However, we did get a few stone bream and black tail that were taken home for a fry.
Time and again I forget the art of angling and generally will try for larger species forgetting the joy of the catch. At many times blanking while trying for larger species to go home with no fish. I really enjoyed the gulley fishing with my son and it also gave me a good workout hopping from rock to rock. Will definitely be doing more rock fishing soon and the fry, damn did I miss this fresh fish taste. Now I am going back to basics and enjoying it.
