Catching Shad at Warners

A throwback to a few years back when myself and my son had a blast catching Shad at Warner's. My son had ideas of starting a YouTube channel, but abandoned it, after choosing fishing over being a cameraman. Great day out. Great Father Son Moment.

Masala Fish - Catch & Cook - North Pier Durban South Africa

The Crow in this edition sharpens his cooking skills. The infestation continues along the Durban stretch with millions of Wallies. We decided to make the most of it by sliding one out and cooking another. 163,19kg Bronze Whaler in Jeffreys Bay

An impressive catch by a very determined lady Joane Jo Groenewald. After tussling a big Bronzie for about 30mins on a nylon hook trace (targeting a kob or Garrick), the inevitable happened. We quickly changed over to shark traces, and then never had any action for another 5 hours!! Our patience got rewarded though. After a hectic 2 hour battle @jo_joane_ landed this massive Bronze Whaler shark, totally unaided (except for keeping her hydrated and focused) Well done!! GIRL POWER Fish safely released as always. Garrick Live Bait Rig

When rigging a live shad or mullet, the following illustration demonstrates how it should be done. Note that you can use the same setup for a throw trace as well, with just replacing the Non-Return Slide with a normal power swivel. The second hook should be inserted just above the head of the fish, with the lead hook still dangling free. Thereafter insert the lead hook into the side of the fish just on it's side below the fins. Remember not to insert the lead hook too deep into the flesh, it should just pierce the skin. Another option is to place the lead hook just in front of the belly. You could use a single Treble hook, inserted just above the head.

Keeping your Bait for longer - Sardine Run 2023

With the upcoming 2023 Sardine Run almost here, many of us would like to keep our Sardines for later use. To ensure that your sardines stay fresh and usable for later dates, follow these tips and you should be fine. PS: This works for all bait fish, ie. Red Eye, Maasbanker, Mackerel, Karanteen, Shad etc. 1. When you get your Sards, on the beach, make sure they are placed in a cooler box filled with ice and sea water. (Ice keeps it cold, and water helps keep them firm, no smashing of sardines) 2. When you get home, dump them into a tub of water filled with ice and salt. 3. Thereafter take each one and wrap individually with cling wrap 4. Place in freezer, separately either on a grid or tray, until they are frozen 5...
