Scalys on The Mooi

Found a stretch on the Mooi holding some decent Scalys. Got a few trips in before the water got too cold. Can't wait for September to get back there. #kznonfly External Link: www.facebook.com

bass

We just got to the dam and it started raining. it continued for the next hour or so. We decided to fish in the rain. There was plenty of fingerling talapia around but no sign of any big fish. About 10 am I heard a loud splash in front of me and when I looked to my left I saw my grandson being pulled forward with his rod in his hand. He was into a big bass. I ran over and guided him on how to handle the fish. After a few minutes he landed his largest bass. A quick weigh in and some pics it was released. it weighed 3.9 kg.

Bass Fishing, Tiger Fishing and Camping Safari

Bass Fishing Report – Inanda Dam – 9-11 October 2018 Day 1: I met up with Olivier and Janick from Reunion Island on the afternoon of the 8th of October and we set up camp with 3 days of Bass ahead of us, it was windy that afternoon making setting up the tents a challenge but with everyone working together it went rather fast, we then proceeded to make a fire and had a braai (barbecue) whilst getting to know each other and discussing the events for the next few days. Day 2: Awesome weather was presented to us and our morning session went well with 6 largemouth bass landed and released, most of them around keeper size (30cm), nothing took on top water and so we had to fish deeper to get some fish...

My First Trout

So over the July holidays we had the honour of spending a few nights at Alpine Heath in the Drakensberg. What an awesome place, highly recommended to anyone wanting to visit the Berg. Sadly I left my rods at home, not knowing there were Dams stocked with Trout in the Hotel grounds. Luckily for me the hotel hired out fly rods at a very reasonable rate. I decided to try my hand at fly fishing, but sadly the Tackle was so badly kept (Possible due to kids mainly using them), that trying to fly cast was almost impossible. So instead I found a length of line with a Bass weight and Hook attached. In an attempt to make a plan I spooled the line onto the fly reel, and using the hook from one of the Flies I bought, I made up a trace with the weight from the Bass tackle...
